Research

Green Hydrogen via Water Electrolysis

Decreasing the cost and increasing the efficiency of hydrogen production. Using electrochemistry coupled to two-phase flow and microstructure to predict and improve cross-over and reduce overpotential in alkaline water electrolysis.

Fuel Cells

Water flooding and oxygen distribution can effect the performance of polymer electrolyte fuel cells. Using computational fluid dynamics and mechanistic modelling, predictions can be made to understand the effect of different materials and operating parameters.

3D Printing & Carbonisation

Customised carbon electrodes can be designed using a novel workflow of 3D printing to carbonisation in a pyrolysis process. This new material can be optimised for fluid permeability and electrical conductivity for applications in fuel cells, batteries, electrolyses and more.

Porous Material Modelling

X-ray imaging of porous materials can be challenging and expensive. Porous Microstructure Generator (PMG) tools have been developed to create 3D porous materials with constrained generation algorithms (porosity, particle size/shape)

Discrete Particle Models

Discrete particle models can be used to predict the transport and evaporation of (droplets and bubbles) in the velocity flow field of a continuous phase. Tablet coating models developed for Pharmaceutical applications.

Experimental PIV

The design, construction and analysis of high-speed 3D printed transparent devices for fluid validation and analysis.

Pharmaceutical Tablet Coating

Achieving a good tablet coated appearance requires the control of drying and spraying processes. Using analytical, experimental and simulation approaches a reduced order model has been created to optimise process settings prior to manufacture.

Visualisation

Scientific data contains a large amount of information. Creating unique visualisation for publications and data presentation is essential for knowledge transfer. Use of Blender, ParaView and PMG.
